What is the state of American journalism in 2009? On Monday, March 16, the Pew Research Center’s Project for Excellence in Journalism’s sixth annual State of The News Media report will address this question, and introduce original research on topics as far ranging as the health of newspapers to the economic outlook for the media business.
Each year, PEJ examines the status of the news media by compiling and analyzing data and producing original research on the eight main media sectors of media—print, online, cable TV, network TV, magazines, local TV, ethnic press, and radio. The report begins with our annual overview of major trends.
This year, the report also includes:
- A Year in the News, a new comprehensive content analysis of 70,000 stories from 48 news outlets in five different kinds of media.
- A detailed look at Hispanic and African American media
- Lessons learned from the 2008 election
- An examination of new ventures in the journalism industry
- A content analysis study of citizen media sites in 46 different communities
- Links to key industry statistics
